Training and Internship Program
JSS Behavioral Services has openings for doctoral interns and postdoctoral residents. The primary responsibility is the provision of clinical services to children, adolescents, and their families. As such, trainees will be responsible for conducting initial diagnostic interviews; providing ongoing individual, family, and group psychotherapy; planning, administering, scoring, and interpreting various assessment measures and provide feedback to patients and their families; and participate in the autism diagnostic clinic as appropriate and needed. Trainees will see between 25 and 30 patients per week and will have some evening appointments. Administrative support for scheduling and billing is provided as well as assistance from psychometrists for psychological assessments.
In addition to individual and group supervision, trainees also participate in monthly therapy and assessment consultation groups with other clinicians. The multi-disciplinary team at JSS Behavioral Services, which is comprised of clinical and school psychologists, licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers, licensed psychoeducational specialists, as well as those working toward independent licensure in those areas, is available for additional consultation as needed. Trainees attend in-service trainings presented to JSS Behavioral staff as well as prepare at least one presentation. Opportunities to supervise may arise. Interns are required to complete a total of 2080 hours of training over the course of a 12-month period. Interns will receive a stipend of $25,000 and benefits to include participation in the JSS benefits package (medical, vision, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance), 10 days paid personal time off, paid company holidays and closings, dissertation completion time, eligibility for JSS 401K program after one year of employment, and opportunities for sponsorship and to attend conferences/trainings/workshops for continuing education.
All internship applicants must be US citizens enrolled in a regionally accredited and/or APA accredited PhD or PsyD program in clinical, counseling, or school psychology. Applicants must be approved by their doctoral program’s Director of Clinical Training as ready for internship. Please submit a cover letter, CV, 3 letters of recommendation, and AAPI materials including essays and verification of internship readiness from your DCT, to Dr. Meghan S. Mattos via email. Applicants invited for an interview will be asked to email a redacted assessment report prior to the interview. Applicants local to Charleston may be asked to interview in person. Other applicants may interview via video conference.

The Examination for the Professional Practice of Psychology (EPPP) must be taken and passed by the end of postdoctoral year. The position fulfills requirements for licensure in the state of South Carolina.
Applicants must have a PsyD or PhD from a regionally and/or APA accredited program in clinical, counseling, or school psychology. All degree requirements, including the dissertation, must be complete prior to starting.
